I can't believe how fast these two months have flown by. I am also totally impressed by how far they have all come in those two months. It is still 19 days before they are even supposed to be in this world and yet I have one home, one home very soon, and the last following in their foot steps about a week or two behind. So here is the latest update...
Ryan: Last weight was 5lb 6oz. He lost some weight after he started back on food. They decreased his feeding goals because he had gained so much fluid weight while he was on IV nutrition. He should start gaining again at this point. He took 3 out of 4 bottles for the nurse last night and took all 4 bottles today. If he successfully takes all 4 bottles tonight he will get his feeding tube removed tomorrow. The good news for him and bad news for his parents who like to get "some" sleep he will come home somewhere between 24 and 72 hours after his feeding tube is removed if he continues to eat and gain weight. Wow reality sets in!!!!!
Tyler: He weighs 4lbs 6oz now and is doing well. He is starting to eat more from the bottle. He is still not caught up with Ryan but is eating a decent portion of his bottle a couple of times a day. He continues to be off all of the oxygen and doing reasonably well with it. He does still have his moments and is very sensitive to light and sound. When he gets upset he tends to drop his heart rate and oxygen levels temporarily as if saying, "Hello! I'm trying to sleep over here!" His main problem right now is acid reflux and they are working very hard to try to change his formula and they have now put him on a medication to help so that eating is easier for him. I hope it all helps.
Emily: She has been home for a week now and weighed 5lb 1oz at her last Dr. visit. She is now on medication for acid reflux as well and it does seem to be helping. She come home with an apnea monitor and was able to get rid of it Monday. She is now my "wireless" baby. It feels so odd to be able to pick her up and take her room to room without draging equipment with me. She is enjoying being an only child and will be in for a rude awakening when the boys get here. My mom and I take turns staying with her while the other goes to see the boys during the week. On the weekends Rusty is here and him and I take turns. The boys are always glad to see their dad but Emily is even more so. Last time she stayed awake for almost and hour after her feeding when he first got here. She has him wrapped around her little finger already!! What a daddy's girl. Here is a picture after her bath today. More updates later.
