Babies have done reasonably well today. We went to visit them this morning around 5am and Tyler and Emily were both doing well. They both had to be given sedation during the night so they didn't try to breath against their ventilators. They also told me that Tyler had nearly pulled out his lines going into his umbilical cord with his toes and he simply would not lay still. He is going to be our active one! Ryan has had some issues with his blood pressure and his kidneys were not working well yet. They gave him medication for his blood pressure and some lasix to try and get his kidneys to get rid of some fluid. He looked a little puffy this morning from all the fluid he is not getting rid of. His blood pressure had stabilized but would drop again anytime people tried to touch him so we were not able to touch him this morning. We had made plans to go and see them again around 9am but they were needing to give him some plasma so they were going to put in a PICC line which is placed in the arm but is long and is threaded through the vessel so medications are taken centrally just before the heart. These internal vessels are larger and stronger than the small ones in the arms and will hopefully keep them from having to have multiple IV lines. They did place the PICC's in all 3 babies while they were there. We did go in again and see them this afternoon and got to speak with the doctor. He told us that they have not had any complications that he had not expected so far. The newest thing this afternoon is that they are now receiving nutrition through their new PICC lines. This formula they give has sugar in it and now their sugars are high so they have started them on insulin. They were all resting well at this visit because they had given them some medication to help them relax before the procedure earlier. They are all still intubated but the doctor did feel that Emily could be changed to CPAP within 24 hours. The other two will be changed as soon as possible but they may not be as quick. Rusty has gone back down around 6pm and said they were all resting well. They are still about the same they are struggling to find the appropriate balance between the sugar going in and the insulin levels. Hopefully this will be worked out soon. Here is a picture of Rusty and I next to Emily. Behind us are Tyler and Ryan. Ryan is in the farthest incubator.
