Ryan: He had to have his feedings stopped and is back on IV fluids and nutrition because his belly was not looking very good. We expect him to start back on feedings soon. He had some spells where he would drop his oxygen level and got his nasal oxygen back yesterday but had it off again today. In all other ways he is still doing very well. Last weight I got was 2lb 6oz.
Tyler: He had to have his feedings stopped as well because of his belly. He was still getting IV nutrition and fluids and they were increased when his feeding stopped. His sugars have been high so they did give him some insulin to decrease it as well as decreasing the amount of sugar in his nutrition. This has done the trick and his sugars are good today. He is alternating between the CPAP and nasal oxygen every 6 hours. Even though he is still the smallest he is starting to fill out some. The last weight they told me was 1lb 14oz.
Emily: She is leaving the boys in the dust. She has reached her feeding goal and got rid of her IV fluids the night before last. She has had no trouble that would cause her to stop her feedings. She has been spitting up some when her feeding is almost complete but not enough to concern them. Since she has been off her IV fluids and tolerating her feedings they took out her PICC line today. I sure hope we don't need that back! She is breathing totally on her own no oxygen at all. She does still have to be hooked to the monitors so they can make sure she is doing well at all times but other than that she gets hooked up for her feedings for about 30 minutes every 3 hours and then she is free. Today I told her that her brothers were not doing as well and you should have seen the huge grin on her face! What an ornery girl!
